My Story:
I have worked for Morrison since 2004 as a Supervisor for non-housing works, as well as out of hours call outs for day to day and emergency calls. My team consists of 11 operatives including plumbers, carpenters, drainage gangs and handymen.
I originally started out as a carpenter and have 30 years experience, which I believe gives me a really good understand about the kind of work my guys are undertaking and the pressures and experiences they face in their day jobs.
These days my job involves spending a lot more time in the office allocating work and making sure jobs are closed off and the paperwork is completed. I also go out on site visits to check on the work being completed by my team and ensure they are okay. I enjoy the variety this brings to my job and it’s great to go out on site and interact with my team and our clients.
Looking after out of hours’ calls, means that I do sometimes need to go out on jobs myself when the team is really busy, such as during the bad weather we had in December 2010.
I enjoy this side of my job, (although not always on a cold winter nights!), as it is really nice to be able to keep my hand in and to go out and see tenants. In these situations I am usually visiting properties where the repairs is pretty urgent and so being able to get the problem solved quickly is always appreciated by tenants which is a good feeling.
I am really lucky because I have a good team working for me, which means we work well together and they know they can come to me if they have any problems. This is really important because running an efficient team and solving problems quickly ensures we keep on track of our work.
